What I'm looking forward to about heaven as a person with a disability

A poem by Disability Advocate, Rev. Jason Forbes

July 2022

It’s not that I’ll be able to move around freely,

in as much we’ll all be in the presence of God.

It’s not that I’ll be able to speak clearly,

in as much as all will know my thoughts as we sing God’s praises together.

It’s not that I’ll no longer have a disability to overcome,

in as much I’ll be known and appreciated as one who bears God’s image.

It’s not that I’ll be able to do things with my hands,

in as much I’ll be able to rest in divine provision.

It’s not that I’ll be able to see,

in as much as I’ll know glory.

It’s not that I’ll be able to hear,

in as much I’ll receive God’s promises fulfilled.

It’s not that I’ll be able to think clearly,

in as much as God’s purposes will be understood.

It’s not that I long for heaven in the future,

in as much as I hope to be reminded of it now.
